The Oystermen to moor in Covent Garden on 4 July

Seafood specialist, pop-up caterers The Oystermen will officially open their first permanent mooring, The Oystermen Seafood Bar and Kitchen, on Monday 4 July in Henrietta Street, Covent Garden.

With just 26-covers we predict a few queues, but when there’s six oysters and a glass of bubbly for £10 on the menu, 3-5 pm every day, it should be worth the wait. The restaurant and oyster bar will feature an open kitchen presided over by chef Alex Povall, formerly of Angela Hartnett’s Café Murano and Merchant’s Tavern.

Diners will be able to enjoy oysters from all around the UK – from Cornwall to Scotland, via Dorset, Kent, Essex and North Wales – accompanied by favourites from previous Oystermen pop-ups, such as: crab doughnuts with house-pickled cucumber, and creamy mackerel and horseradish pate. And new treats like crispy cayenne mussels with a zesty lime mayonnaise, a rich south coast curried clam chowder, and Scottish mussels with Herefordshire cider and bacon.

Expect not just oysters, but crabs, clams, cockles, razor clams, mussels, and a seasonal selection of fish too.

A set lunch and pre-theatre menu will be available seven days per week, and the oyster bar will remain open for post-theatre platters, light bites and drinks. The Oystermen’s “Bubbles ‘n’ Oysters Happy Hour” £10 deal will be in effect from 3-5 pm every day, offering six freshly-shucked oysters and a glass of Crémant de Bourgogne ‘Domaine la Croix Montjoie’.

Diners can also sample the exclusive craft beer collaboration between The Oystermen & popular South London brewers Canopy Beer Co. – the ‘Everyday Oyster Stout’.
