International gourmet pizza challenge

image_00039Forget Naples – an international line-up of top London chefs are competing next month to create the most delicious pizza topping, straying far from its Italian roots.

Vivek Singh of the Cinnamon Club, Jun Tanaka of the Ninth, Pascal Aussignac of Club Gascon, Anna Hansen of the Modern Pantry and Robin Gill of The Dairy and Paradise Garage will all create signature recipes for the Gourmet Pizza Challenge hosted by Pizzicotto in Kensington High Street.

The competition will raise funds for Action Against Hunger. The pizzas will be on the menu throughout November, and 50p for each one sold will be donated to help malnourished people in 50 countries around the world. The bestseller will be declared the winner and stay on the menu permanently, with £1 of its price going to the charity.

Pizzicotto’s owner, James Chiavarini, is clearly no pizza purist: “Pizza dough is such a versatile base,” he says. “You can really put almost anything on it.”

Tickets to the launch on Friday October 30, costing £40 for a slice of all seven pizzas plus a cocktail, starter and dessert, are available on 020 7603 6262.
