Hackney Pearl takes up residence in Stratford

Hackney Wick watering hole the Hackney Pearl is heading further east to take up residence at a new rooftop venue overlooking the Olympic Park. The new venture – another one of those oxymoronic ‘permanent pop-ups’ – will see the Pearl ensconced at Roof East in Stratford, serving up street food, local beers, cocktails and wine.

The rooftop, no doubt set to be a crucial summertime hangout for the rather under-serviced residents of Newham, opens on 26 June in Great Eastern Way. Meantime pilsner and pale ale, prosecco and pink moscato are all available on tap, while cocktails like the Aperol Spritz, Watermelon Cooler and traditional Bloody Marys are served at the bar.

Chef and owner James Morgan has devised a menu of mackerel fillet, romesco and rocket; sweetcorn fritter, homemade sweet chilli jam and yoghurt; pork and beef burgers and salad boxes with vegetables and herbs from GrowUp Box – the rooftop’s aquaponic urban farm.

The Rooftop Cinema Club will also be screening a range of films al fresco every night Tuesday-Saturday until September.
