‘Floating’ rooftop restaurant for Manchester

Plans have been drawn up for a “glowing box” restaurant that will appear to float above the roof of a multi-storey hotel in central Manchester.

The stunning venue is earmarked for the redevelopment of the former Granada television studios, where Coronation Street, the world’s longest-running TV soap, was filmed from 1960 until 2013.

The restaurant will be supported on fine columns above the roof of a 210-room hotel converted from the shell of the landmark 1962 Granada House office block.

Developer Allied London took over the site on Quay Street in a £26million deal in 2013, and plans to redevelop it under the name Enterprise City, a zone for the digital, technology and creative industries. Building work is expected to start later this year.
