Hip Chinese dining comes to Leeds

mans-market-037A nightclub entrepreneur aims to remix Chinese dining with Mans Market, a new speakeasy-style venue in Leeds that opened this month.

Ray Chan, who grew up in a Chinese takeaway in the Leeds suburb Horsforth, founded the Candypants nightlife events outfit.

Mans Market is his first foray into the food sector, and he promises a “hip new approach to the entire dining experience that will make you fall in love with Chinese food all over again”.

The entrance is a discreet black door, inspired by New York basement bars, while the décor nods to Hong Kong with Bruce Lee posters. Customers summon waiters by clipping cards reading “Feed me” or “I’m thirsty” to a rail above their table.

The menu is led by house versions of Chinese classics such as crispy aromatic duck rolls, with cocktails mixed at the bar.
