Leeds to host Italian food fight between TV chefs

mattrussell_gino_131jpegTV chef Gino D’Acampo is parking his pasta machine on Jamie Oliver’s lawn with the announcement that his third My Restaurant will open in Leeds city centre by the end of the year – directly opposite Jamie’s Italian.

Billed as “the UK’s favourite Italian chef”, D’Acampo made his name through TV appearances including a victorious 2009 run on I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here before launching his My Pasta Bar chain three years ago.

He followed up with the more upmarket My Restaurant in Manchester’s Corn Exchange in December last year and London’s Euston station in February. Further expansion is expected next year.

The Leeds branch, in Park Row, will seat 150 diners over two storeys with views into an open kitchen. D’Acampo is committed to using seasonal artisan ingredients imported from his homeland. “I’m looking forward to treating Yorkshire to a real taste of Italy,” he said.
