Veggie favourite tibits transforms Bankside warehouse

Mayfair’s vegetarian canteen, tibits, will open a sister restaurant on Bankside at the end of June. Its self-service, pay-by-weight formula (which is “much nicer than the cafeteria style you might expect”) has been a hit with our reporters since it opened just off Regent Street back in 2000.

tibits bankside will open in a former warehouse on Southwark Street, not far from Borough Market. The dining room will centre around a ‘food boat’ showcasing over 40 vegetarian and vegan dishes, including the restaurant’s famous guilt-free yet decadent desserts. As with the Mayfair original, diners can select as much or as little as they like and everything is paid for by weight.

The Swiss team behind tibits, Reto, Christian and Daniel Frei, have engaged architecture firm Atelier Oi (whose clients include Hermes and Louis Vuitton) to design the interior, which vaunts smoked oak timber, brass and concrete furnishings, with a garden room, and seating for 120 guests.
