Cipriani, Mayfair, must change name, rules appeal court
The Court of Appeal has ruled that Cipriani – favoured haunt of Mayfair Eurotrash – must change its name. The court ruled that – despite the ownership of the restaurant by the family of the same name – the use of ‘Cipriani’ was “an infringement of the clearest kind” of an EU trademark most famously associated with the eponymous Venetian hotel.
The ruling is the latest blow for the family, members of which have been convicted of tax evasion in the US,and which last year lost the lease of the famous Rainbow Room in New York’s Rockefeller Center.
