Bistrotheque are set to open Flash, their second temporary, “guerilla” restaurant, on 1 November as part of GSK Contemporary at The Royal Academy of Arts.
The restaurant, situated at 6 Burlington Gardens, will only be open for the duration of the contemporary art season at the gallery, which ends on 18 January 2009.
The team's first disposable restaurant, The Reindeer, was open for a mere 23 days during the Christmas season of 2006, and was something of a schlock-fest, complete with snow. The aims for the RA restaurant seem less likely to offend the sensibilities of art-goers: indeed the PR reads a bit like an art-gallery catalogue.
The room. we are told, will be made entirely from art storage boxes. The centre piece – a 'Peridot Meteor Star' chandelier, courtesy of Giles Deacon and (as usual) Swarovski – is “inspired by over-sized crystals, a pschedelic death star [that’s]… brutal yet beautiful”.
Flash will be open for lunch, cream tea, and dinner. And you can buy the plates...
