Ramsay Holdings declines to account for itself

Insofar as it relates to the 2007 accounts (see last paragraph below), this item has been updated.

The mystery of why Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) cannot – or will not – file its now much overdue accounts is getting ever deeper.

Back in June, we noted that, although GRH seemed happy enough to bandy around its financial results in the media, it has been remarkably reluctant to file the historical figures at Companies House which the law requires. So we sought clarification from GRH about the continuing delay, and were told that the accounts for 2006 (at that point 11 1/2 months late) were finally to be filed on 20 June.

That date came and went. So we asked again. We were told that the accounts “have been approved and signed and are due to be filed with companies house by [11 July]”.

So, guess what? Yes, 11 July came and went, and – nearly two weeks later – the accounts are still not filed. GRH declines to make any statement on why they have twice given us information which has turned out to have been incorrect. Nor have they given any indication of when they might finally get around to sending the accounts to Companies House. As those accounts “have been approved and signed”, however, it is almost impossible to see how there can be any legitimate reason for not filing them forthwith.

It’s even more peculiar when you consider that, last year, GRH told the Evening Standard that it had originally been hoping to file the 2006 accounts some 15 months ago. Even the most inefficient people can generally get around to getting something done within a year or so of the first attempt.

The accounts for 2007, incidentally, are now also overdue.
