If you’ve never really been very convinced by the idea of fast food sushi, then you’ll find all your prejudices confirmed by this very amusing sushi taste test reported by Richard Vines on Bloomberg.
He asks Umu chef, Ichiro Kubota, to sample the delights of sushi from Pret, Eat, Yo! and so on and report his findings. This from a man who “only eat[s] sushi in Japan”.
Suffice is to say that 3/10 is the winning score (for Wasabi), which earns the highest praise from Ichiro: “The young generation in Japan might eat this”.
Of places rated by Harden’s the scores are as follows: Itsu (1.5/10), Yo! Sushi! (1/10), K10 (0/10), Moshi Moshi (1/10), Eat (0/10), and Pret (0/10). It’s well worth a read though for the insightful and different ways Mr Kubota finds to demolish the various offerings.
