Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room
Fay Maschler, Evening Standard (Rating: 3/5 stars)
The critic visits the dining room at the relaunched East End gallery, where “all is blonde wood panelling, bevelled mirrors and crisp white linen napkins”. The chef is “Maria Elia, who previously cooked to general satisfaction at Delfina Studio Café in Bermondsey, also surrounded by art”, and whose menu is “short, seasonal and something of a vegetable patch for those who eschew meat”. It has its ups and downs, but generally pleases.
Ba Shan
Richard Vines, Bloomberg (Rating: 3/4 stars)
The man from the finanical news service is swept away by this “understated” Chinese ‘tapas’ bar, which is emerging as one of the critical raves of recent times. The food “is delicious and isn’t expensive”.
Goodman
Andy Lynes, Metro (Rating: 4/5 stars)
Metro’s stand-in reviewer gives us the most positive critique yet of this Mayfair steakhouse. Only at the dessert stage do “cracks” appear in what’s otherwise a consistent thumbs-up.
The Farm Collective
Charmaine Mok, Time Out (Rating: 4/6 stars)
“Clamped in the fray that is Farringdon’s (dis)array of lunchtime pitstops and coffee shops, this newcomer makes a statement with its careful sourcing of ingredients (the majority from small farms, thus the name) and commitment to turning said produce into fresh, delicious grub for the area’s hungry drones.” This “tiny” lunch spot is “not a place to linger”, but its “honest” approach wins it a notably positive review.
