On the the basis of Harden’s current survey, ex-River Café Head Chef Theo Randall runs THE best Italian restaurant in town, at the swanky Inter-Continental Hotel at Hyde Park Corner. So it sounds like good news that he’s planning to open a ‘diffusion’ outlet, down in Putney, where we’re guessing the food will come at more moderate prices.
He’s not quitting Mayfair, but he is embarking on a co-venture with one of West London’s most indefatigable local restaurateurs, Rebecca Mascarenhas, perhaps best known as proprietress of Sonny’s in Barnes. Ms Mascarenhas is no stranger to co-productions with Mayfair chefs, having made quite a hit of Kitchen W8 – the Kensington venture where her partner is Philip Howard of The Square.
In Putney, it’s the premises of the former Cantinetta which are to be turned into a “modern trattoria”, opening in September. It’s a site that’s had its ups and downs in the past. We're hoping, though, that it should be ‘one to watch’.
