Simon Rogan, for those who don’t know, is the “Heston Blumenthal” of the Lake District. His restaurant L’Enclume, in a former forge, is a ‘stand-out’ in that part of the world, and has a particular name for its multi-course extravaganzas, featuring local herbs.
It was once thought that Rogan was going to open a spin-off establishment near Henley, but a recent change of plan has led him to concentrate on his operations in Cartmel.
Next month should see the opening of a two-floor 100-seater called Rogan and Company. Completing the Blumenthal analogy, it looks as if this is going to be an operation rather like the Hind’s Head in Bray, offering more straightforward fare than than for which the maestro is particularly known.
They’re not easing off at L’Enclume though, and we’re told the year will see “a new look to the dining room, a new kitchen with some exciting new bits of kit, new dishes and a new wine list”. And is if that were not enough, there are going to be a couple of further bedrooms (well, in fact, suites) for hire too.
