French country restaurants suffer worst in recession

Economic difficulties in France are having a particularly severe effect on French country restaurants, reports trade body SYNHORCAT (spotted by caterersearch.com).

In Paris, overall sales in the first quarter are down 10.2% compared to the year before, but, en province, figures are down by 20-50%, with traditional-style restauration suffering worst.

‘Reception’ business is reported to be some 40% down, both in Paris and beyond.
