Tom Ilic is a chef with quite a following among London foodies. He came to particular prominence when he was chef at Bonds EC2 (which, since his departure, has fallen into relative obscurity), and was subsequently chef at Addendum EC3.
Today this rolling stone launches a solo venture on a Battersea site which has seen a few changes of its own in recent years, and most recently traded as The Food Room – the latest in a succession of good restaurants that never truly made it. Perhaps, just perhaps, Ilic is the man to break the spell.
The menu certainly has a bit of interest. On the cuisine front, pork is an Ilic speciality, and the dinner menu will feature such signature dishes as braised pig’s cheeks and chorizo, and an assiette of pork with pickled white cabbage, apple and rosemary.
Lunchtimes will see a more brasserie-style menu, including the likes of Caesar salad and steak and chips.
With the house wine at £13 a bottle, prices don’t sound too grabby. Of special seasonal interest, from 4 December a 5-course lunch menu will be served, priced at £25. This menu is available for groups – it might help make this a more-interesting-than-usual Christmas party destination.
