In an apparent sign that ‘new Conran’ – officially known as D&D London – really is going to be different, the group has announced its first joint venture. Located in Clerkenwell, it’s called Modern Pantry, and is a 50/50 project with Providores W1 co-founder, Anna Hansen.
This is the first time that D&D – described in the Daily Telegraph article as owning “some of London’s most iconic restaurants, such as Pont de la Tour” (?) – has co-ventured with an independent restaurateur.
Although the true ownership of and financial interest in many restaurants tend to the obscure, it is probably true to say that the partnership between a big group and an independent is also something of a ‘first’ more generally.
Total investment in the establishment – also to contain a delicatessen – is apparently set to exceed £1m.
