The latest London Restaurants Barometer – the fledgling indicator of good heath (or not) of the capital’s restaurant scene – brings rather depressing news.
In October, 61% of restaurateurs sampled reported takings down on the same month last year. This may be compared to 11% reporting no change, and 28% reporting an increase. On a net basis, therefore, 33% reported a decline.
Considering the ‘mood music’ that London has ‘turned a corner’, it strikes us as pretty sobering that a third (net) of restaurateurs are finding conditions worse that they did just after ‘Lehman Brothers’.
The number of restaurants surveyed for the October Barometer was not stated.
