Gordon Ramsay has appointed a “celebrity spin doctor”, reports the London Evening Standard, in the form of former News of the World and Hello! editor Phil Hall. Other clients include footballer Paul Gascoigne and Fred ‘the Shred’ Goodwin, of RBS fame.
Until very recently, Ramsay had another celebrity spin doctor, Paul Farrow, who – many people thought – had done a pretty good job for him. Farrow was, however, seemingly sacked after certain personal allegations about Ramsay appeared in one of the red-top newspapers.
Mr Farrow is quoted by industry blog Guide Girl as wishing Hall luck. “He's going to need it, because according to my cab driver, Gordon Ramsay, celebrity chefs are having a really tough time at the moment.” (Those who are interested in the current fame and misfortune of celebrity chefs, incidentally, might be interested to read a recent article by Harden’s website co-editor Richard Harden, published in last week’s Caterer & Hotelkeeper.)
PS (14 May) While we’re on the subject of personnel in and round Gordon Ramsay, it is today confirmed by kitchenrat.com that, after eight years employment by the group, Gillian Thomson, head of operations, is to leave Gordon Ramsay Holdings. Her destination is unknown.
