One Paston Place – which has long cultivated a reputation as Brighton’s best restaurant – is no more.
Although it was reported in the Daily Telegraph (and repeated in earlier version of this item) that the restaurant had “gone under”, the full story is actually rather more interesting.
The real story, it turns out, is all to do with the inexorable pull of Mayfair in the contemporary restaurant world. Chef/patron Francesco Furriello, it appears, was seduced into taking over the stoves at Mosaico W1. And it is that departure, we are told, which led to the closure of what was, in commercial terms, a successful seaside restaurant.
The Brighton site, in Kemp Town, has been taken over by Sam Metcalfe – owner of the good-but-pricey Sevendials – who apparently plans to use it for an upmarket bistro.
