In recent times, the Walnut Tree near Abergavenny has been most newsworthy for its association with Gordon Ramsay.
It is claimed by the most recent owners, Enrica and Francesco Mattioli that it never recovered from his portrayal of it on Kitchen Nightmares.
Our survey, though, suggested that the restaurant can't blame it all on Gordon. Its glory days began to end as soon as Franco Taruschio – who had run the place for more than 30 years – sold out to ex-London chef Stephen Terry back in 2001.
