Catering-cum-restaurant company Searcys is to relaunch its Barbican lakeside dining room (listed in Harden’s new guide as Searcy’s Brasserie EC2) later this month.
Despite various efforts to raise its profile over the years, the restaurant has battled with its obscure location to attract anything more than a local cultural and business following. Now, it seems, they’re having another go. The chef will be “creative”, the menu fashionably British, and the wine list “artfully compiled”. A lakeside private dining room will seat up to 12 people.
Interestingly, the newcomer is being pushed as a ‘value’ proposition right from the start. “Searcys Restaurant menu will cost less than it did five years ago”, says the bumph, “with our lunch menu boasting 3 courses with wine for £50.00 for 2”, A three-course dinner will be £29.00.
(Value isn’t currently just a buzz topic on this side of the Pond of course. To see how the Big Apple’s restaurateurs are dealing with lean times, see an article in today’s NYTimes.)
