Note (14 May): There has been a change of plan, it seems: the establishment is being opened tomorrow, as The Hoxton Pony.
A major new bar/restaurant, with a capacity of 400, is to open in Shoreditch next month.
With backers including Gerry Calabrese – son of Salvatore Calabrese, who can with some justice claim to be London’s most famous living barman – it’s no surprise that the operation will be ‘drinks-led’. There’s also, however, to be a food operation on quite a scale, with a menu boasting an avowedly ‘East End’ focus.
In the Shoreditch style, some thought has been given to eco-considerations, and – sensitive readers look away now – the place comes equipped with ‘waterless’ urinals, intended to save 0.5m litres of water a year.
