
Good times are returning to the capital’s top-end restaurants, according to a survey by Bloomberg, the financial news service.
Their sleuth Richard Vines – who seems to have most of the capital’s top toques on his speed-dial – spoke to 30 industry leaders last week, and found almost invariable optimism. It was a common theme that things – never quite as bad as might have been expected – have really begun to pick up over the past couple of months.
You do, of course, always need to have the bull***t baffles up when people tell you how well their businesses are doing, but the similarity of the reports does suggest that they may be broadly true.
Even so, as Jason Atherton at Maze recognised: “January to March could bring a big downturn again because everything depends on the economy”.
