Curiouser and curiouser. First we had the Channel 4 programme, Big Chef Little Chef, about Heston Blumenthal’s attempt to shake up the Litttle Chef chain (or at least its Popham branch), which seemed to betray a very odd and unstructured relationship between the Fat Duck chef and his paymasters.
And now it’s reported that the chain is to roll out the Blumenthal menu nationwide… without Blumenthal’s involvement! (See caterersearch.com)
Is Heston just an innocent abroad? Doesn’t he have ‘people’? How on earth can ‘the world’s second best chef’ have entered into such a high-profile relationship – especially with a ‘big bad’ chain – without a watertight contract to protect him, and the exploitation of ‘his’ menu and his fame?
The whole thing gets more and more bizarre.
