Hope of new North Western star?

Juniper – inevitably described as “Greater Manchester's only Michelin-starred restaurant” – has been sold to Swiss chef Michael Riemenschneider, reports Crains.

Crains also reports that the 26-year-old “already holds a Michelin star for his Abbey Restaurant in Penzance”. This is technically true but spiritually false, as the Abbey’s star was actually won by previous chef Ben Tunnicliffe.

We hear that Riemenschneider’s pretty hot, though, so – just perhaps – Juniper, in Altrincham, will be restored as the destination restaurant Greater Manchester so desperately needs.

The challenge of running two restaurants so far apart, however – not least for one so young – should not be under-estimated.

Juniper’s former chef, Paul Kitching, has now departed for Edinburgh.
