Still in their 20s, Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling have launched Maggie's: a new 1980’s inspired boutique club in the heart of Chelsea.
They are continuing the quirky nature of their hidden speakeasy bar, Barts, which opened in February 2009. As children of the 1980s, Duncan and Charlie have created a kitsch and amusing tribute to this great decade. It is exactly thirty years since this vibrant era began and they felt the time was right to launch a club of this nature.
Maggie's is named after 1980’s Prime-Minister-turned-icon Maggie Thatcher who was in power throughout this ten year period. Club-goers can hear her famous speeches playing in the loos, while Thatcher memorabilia vies for space on the walls along with other iconic 80’s images and paraphernalia, from A Team action men to A-Ha platinum discs. A graffiti mural along the wall depicts a bizarre cross section of 80’s legends including Timmy Mallet, Mr T and David Bowie, whilst all the clubs decor and furniture clashes in a similar fashion.
The venue has a capacity of 150 and is made up of one room with a number of booths and seating areas. It can be hired on any night of the week. It is located on 329 Fulham Road, London, SW10 9QL
