Leighton House Museum to reopen

On 3 April, Leighton House Museum is due to reopen after a £1.3 million restoration program. To give a better insight into Leighton's vision, the house will use interiors and fabric that are closer than ever to the originals.

The house was originally built in the late 1860s with designs by George Aitchison. During the thirty years that Leighton was in residence it continued to evolve and grow. By 1896, the time of his death, it had become one of the most extraordinary houses in London. His 'Private Palace of Art' was renowned not only for the range and quality of art collections that filled it, but also for its architectural and decorative character.
