The Royal Institute of British Architects launches its brand new terrace with one of the first living walls in the capital. Dan Pearson’s winning proposal was commended for its sophisticated planting and living walls, providing a counterpoint to the architecture of 66 Portland Place. The judges felt Dan’s design offered a simple yet innovative solution for the space.
The new terrace connects with the Florence Hall offering event organisers an enticing and sociable space in which to entertain.

The original back wall has been replaced by a screen of closely planted birch and evergreen underplanting which lifts the eye and diffuses the boundary. The lush vertical planting creates Rothko-esque panels of colour to each of the flank walls.
Lisa Lightfoot, Deputy Manager at the RIBA says: “The new terrace compliments our beautiful Art
Deco Florence Hall. The terrace is a real gem in the heart of central London and is just perfect for summer parties. We have seen an increase in the number of bookings this year compared to last year as people start to feel more positive.”
