“Beautifully cooked fish and really good chips” (and a good approach to dietary requirements, like “good gluten-free options served without any fuss”) help make this well-located fixture “the best in the local area”.

“Traditional fish ’n’ chips or more sophisticated and unusual fish dishes” (with “quality sourcing proudly displayed”) are on the menu at this “casual” yet “immaculate” haunt, “named after Tynemouth’s famous blue-flag beach”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

Owner's description

Our seafood restaurant in the beautiful village of Tynemouth serves Shetland mussels, grilled lobster, shucked oysters, monkfish & prawn curry, roast turbot as well as classic fish and chips. Our menu changes daily and is designed around what’s been caught that day by the local fisherman.

As well as the seafood restaurant, we have a takeaway serving fish and chips, tiger prawns & seafood burgers with ‘LFK’ sauce and much more. We don’t use beef dripping in our oil, so our fried food is also suitable for vegetarians.

The Fish Kitchen is also open at weekends for breakfast, but feel free to pop in simply for a tea or coffee at any time of the day.

We are open every day, during the following times:
Restaurant: 11:30am - 8:00pm  Takeaway: 11:30am - 8:00pm

Ample parking available outside of the Restaurant and car park only 2 minute walk away.
