This “fabulous gem of a place” operates out of a shed reached via a footpath on the Roseland Peninsula, and offers an “amazing amount of yum” in the form of no-booking takeaway picnic lunches or ticketed evening feasts on selected summer evenings – the “long queues offset by the exceptional ambience of a beach to eat on”. “You can’t fault it – maybe the clientele of holidaying Londoners, desperate to Instagram that they’ve made it here, makes it less than great… but I can hardly complain when I’m one of them!”.

The “massive queue” shouldn’t put you off visiting this “gorgeous beachside shack with simple tasty grub”, which has become a cult hit on the Roseland Peninsula – “how do they serve such great food with such a basic kitchen?”. The queue “moves fast”, but in any case you might prefer to buy a ticket for one of their ‘feast nights’ (sign up to the mailing list for dates – you’ll have to act fast when they’re released).

“No longer hidden” owing to its rave reviews (not least for oversubscribed ‘feast nights’), “but still great value after a coastal walk” – this “gem” of a shack on the Roseland Peninsula gets a “five for ambience because of that view”. Add in “genuinely delicious, hearty food” (pasties, clotted-cream ice-cream etc) and “what’s not to like?”. (Open in British Summer Time months only, plus a week at Christmas.)

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"The people I was with were dissapointed by the coffee, but I had a great flapjack. I would like to go back and try their Lunches. What a lovely spot and not as long a walk to get there as I expected! "
