Owner's description

Introducing Nº9 Church Street, Stratford upon Avon’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant.

Since opening its doors in July 2010, Nº9 Church St. has established itself as Stratford upon Avon’s favourite neighbourhood restaurant. Located between the commercial centre and the heart of Stratford upon Avon’s 'Old Town'?, Nº9. Church St. is a grade II listed building dating back over 400 years.

Nº9 Church Street is a town centre restaurant with a neighbourhood feel...serving seasonal British food with a contemporary twist in a relaxed environment with informal yet professional staff. The wine list features some fantastic Artisan wines at sensible prices.

For Chef/Patron Wayne Thomson it is the realization of a lifelong dream to own and operate his own restaurant and the result of a career spent in some of the finest kitchens in the country. Working with a trusted network of suppliers, the majority of which he has been dealing with for many years, Wayne’s aim is to source the best available produce in season and where ever possible, sourced locally.

Nº9. Church St. champions great local produce through its menus and holds themed evenings to celebrate renowned seasonal ingredients and great wines. At ground level there is a welcoming bar area to enjoy pre meal drinks or to dine if the stairs might cause a problem. The dining room is to be found on the first floor, exposed original beams and brickwork fire place are complimented by rich colour scheme of browns, gold & burgundy. Dark wood tables and chair create a comfortable and refined atmosphere.

On the second floor is another unique feature of the restaurant; 'Upstairs at Nº9', a private dining room offering a choice of the restaurant menus, a Seasonal Tasting Menu with wines to complement each course or Bespoke, tailored menus for parties of up to 10 people. Larger parties can be catered for in the main restaurant by prior booking.

“Imaginative and excellent-value pre/post-theatre menus” (as well as more relaxed dining options for those giving Shakespeare a miss), are to be had at chef/owner Wayne Thomson’s highly rated town-centre venue, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this summer.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
