Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
Frances Atkins established herself as one of the UK’s most accomplished chefs at this old coaching house and shooting lodge, which she and husband Bill made famous, and which enjoys a “beautiful location”, “overlooking the village green, out in the Dales”. Its scores were as all-round impressive as ever this year thanks to her “inspirational” cooking (much of it from the kitchen garden) and “wonderfully relaxed” service, but post-survey in June 2017 she put the property on the market to allow Bill to retire, and so that she can potentially move onto a less all-consuming venture. (No announcement of a sale had been made by October 2017 however, and Michelin this year maintained their star for the property).
“A sophisticated experience right in the heart of Nidderdale” is to be found at this famous “old coach house / shooting lodge which enjoys a fabulous, picturesque setting” – one of the UK’s best dining destinations. The kitchen – overseen by Frances Atkins – produces “wonderfully prepared, beautifully presented” cuisine “using the finest ingredients the Dales terroir can offer”, while “nothing is too much trouble for the attentive staff”.
“A marvellous setting, in the middle of Nidderdale” provides a “lovely” backdrop to this rural but “classy” old inn, in a “beautiful Dales village”. Frances Atkins is one of the country’s most renowned female chefs, and “local game is often to the fore” in her “unfailingly impressive”, “incredibly intensely flavoured cooking”, which ranks in the UK top-20 this year.
Frances Atkins “is an amazingly innovative chef”, and produces “exquisite” food – “a good blend of locally sourced, foraged, modern and classic” – at this “indulgent” inn, “beautifully located” in the Dales, which she co-owns with husband Bill.

Yorke Arms Restaurant Diner Reviews
"A somewhat reverent attitude in the restaurant. Food was good but with some backfires - liquorice and blackcurrant? We hated the cutlery - it was clumsy to hold and wouldn't balance on the side of the plates. Breakfast was sup[erb, the room lovely and the setting outstanding"
