March 2017: The Chowns have taken back the day-to-day running of Plas Blodegroes from Optimum Management and the Lovells; former sous chef Hugh Bracegirdle and James Gibbs are both back in the kitchen (while Chris himself cooks breakfast and Sunday lunch).

For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
It’s all change at this landmark restaurant-with-rooms, set in a “glorious” country location; after nearly three decades in business, longtime owners the Chown family made way for husband-and-wife-team Chris (ex- Cotswold 88) & Camille Lovell in April 2016. Here’s hoping they can keep up the impeccable standards.
The Chowns’ “elegant” restaurant-with-rooms is “set in beautiful grounds” with a “lovely veranda”, and – with its “delicious” food and “unobtrusive” service – has offered a “dining experience to remember” for nearly 30 years now. Stop Press – in September 2015 they put the business up for sale, so the future of one of Wales’s best destinations is currently uncertain.
The Chowns’ “serene” and “tastefully-appointed”, Georgian restaurant-with-rooms enjoys a “perfect location with lovely garden”, and offers up some “superb cooking” in “silver service” style (which the odd critic finds “on the verge of being pretentious”).
It’s the “wonderful” setting – overlooking a “beautiful garden”, with “sheep roaming in the distance” – which makes the Chowns’ restaurant-with-rooms a “special” experience; the cooking is also “very sound” however, and includes some “brilliant vegetarian options”.
