Bereft of the super-casino which was supposed to be built next door, this grandiose Thai/Indian bar/restaurant somehow manages not only to survive but seemingly even to prosper – it’s tipped for its top-value lunch menu and also its “ultra-modern” surroundings.

Mr Durack scents “an air of folly” at this oriental newcomer, which has cost £4.5m, and has an interior to match, but was largely deserted on his visit. The food is “perfectly competent and unremarkable”.
