Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
“For a serious weekend breakfast”, fans do tip Tom Aikens’s casual bistros (particularly the backstreet Chelsea original), but overall they give an impression that’s decidedly “average”.
“They need to up their game” at Tom Aikens’s supposedly upmarket, casual bistro chain – with its “disorganised” service, “hit-and-miss” cooking and “lack of ambience”, it’s just “all a bit ordinary”.
Save as “hustling and bustling” brunch venues (SW3 especially), reporters rarely give solidly positive reports on Tom Aikens’s growing bistro chain – prices for the “very average” food can seem “excruciating”, and service can be “shambolic”; WC2 has a “wonderful location overlooking the Thames”.
From the “buzzy” (if “squashed”) Chelsea original to the “lovely” Somerset House outlet, Tom Aikens’s branded spin-offs have potential as “fun” hang-outs, especially for brunch; in truth, though, standards are pretty “ordinary”.
