July 2020: The Chop House has launched a sister brand, Tandoor Tacos, a casual, grab-and-go menu with five options of fresh paratha breads stuffed with a "mash-up of Indian and Mexican flavours, spices and pickles". Available from The Hoxton, Southwark for takeaway, on Deliveroo and rolling out soon in Covent Garden and Notting Hill.

“Tandoor as it is meant to be”, with “bursts of authentic, deep and rich smoky flavours”, earns an emphatic thumbs-up for this “energetic” operation just off Trafalgar Square. The “menu is limited but compelling, with bold and memorable spicing”, “mouthwatering chicken and duck” and “well made naan”, while “desserts are the weakest element”.

“Buzzy” Anglo-Indian hybrid in a “perfect central location” just off Trafalgar Square that serves “tapas-sized selections of delicious Indian food to share”; there’s “not a huge choice”, but there are “plenty of vegetarian options”. An offshoot in Notting Hill is no longer in operation.

A “different take on Indian favourites, which you can watch being made in the open kitchen” combines with “retro glamour” styling to good effect at this three-year-old behind St Martin-in-the-Fields: an “excellent concept”, “almost like a copy-cat of Dishoom, but way more relaxed”. In July 2020, it acquired a Southwark spin-off, Tandoor Tacos – a Latino/Indian mashup – and some dishes may be imported to the Covent Garden menu in due course.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Always very busy, but service remains excellent, friendly and efficient. Relatively short menu but everything is very tasty with some unusual ingredients. Really buzzy atmosphere but can get a bit noisy."
