With its “graceful” lighting, booths that are “so warm and enclosing”, and kitchen “on full display” this former wine bar has been “transformed into a small Provençal paradise” – the outdoors “brought indoors” with everywhere “the spirit of the verandah” and cocktails that “continue the theme”. The menu is “a pleasing hybrid of old-fashioned Provençal” with “Italian grace-notes of pasta and polenta”. Highlights of the “excellent meal” include fish “so perkily solid, so pristinely white. It had been steamed rather than poached” partnered by “perfect lumps of vegetable”, black olive mash that’s “tasty as hell”, and a Bandol recommended by the “charming”, “central Castings” waiter “close to nectar”.
