"Our first visit to Le Vacherin and we fell in love with it. The lit restaurant were so welcoming and we were warmly welcomed as the first visitors on Saturday evening. Although not having reserved, we were quickly found a good table and proceeded to order from a fantastically full, varied and extremely reasonable prix fixe menu. The wine list was predominantly French and we enjoyed a good Chablis, and a Cote du Rhone with the cheese course. The food was imaginative, a ham hock, rabbit, leek and mushroom pie and a fig tarte tatin topped with Valencay cheese with an escarole and walnut salad. The Hereford Rump was accompanied with chips, and was cooked to perfection and the cheese board was groaning with a delightfully smelling selection. The ile flottante , with rhubarb was the perfect end to the meal. The restaurant filled with diners as we ate and despite the numbers arriving, the restaurant service remained timely courteous and discreet."
"Typical French brasserie. Consistently good standard by Malcolm John"
