Harden's survey result
For 25 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. This year diners have submitted over 60,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK.
“Hidden away in the vaults under the Royal Academy”, all agree there’s promise in this “lovely” spot. But while some reports do find it “very enjoyable”, too often “the experience doesn’t match up to the prestige of the RA”, delivering “mediocre” results that “miss their mark”: “could (and certainly should) do better!”
“It’s handy when visiting an exhibition”, but many reporters “expected more” of this “prestigious” basement two-year-old (“tucked away” below the RA) – the food “goes from excellent to meh”, service can be “novice”, and overall it can all seem “fairly ordinary”.
“Tucked away” in the basement of the Royal Academy, an “interesting” year-old restaurant (restricted to ‘Friends’ at lunchtime) – fans find it “lovely” all-round, but critics decry “style over substance”.
A garden is, implausibly, among the attractions of the RA’s major new bar/restaurant development, opening as this guide goes to press; let’s hope it offers a step up from the standards at the RA’s existing restaurant!
