“Can I explain our concept?” The critic is always distinctly un-thrilled to be asked this question, and particularly at this new Mayfair Italian where the concept seems to involve “sharing un-shareable dishes” (as well as “bowing to the kitchen’s strictures on timing”). The odd good dish leads her to conclude that the establishment has “an able chef”, but she concludes that he is “floundering in an environment that was making all the wrong demands”.
