This “canteen-y and rather pricey” Malaysian chain is perfectly at home in Westfield; in Trafalgar Square – with Chinatown two minutes’ walk away – its raison d’être is harder to discern.

A short review of a “determinedly mid-market” newcomer, by Trafalgar Square. The critic finds the Malaysian fare “all cooked to order, fresh and occasionally superbly fiery”. (They must have had a different chef on the day we went.) Not all is perfect, though, and demerits include “[d]amp, puddingy rice cakes, horrible, screamy signs blighting Pall Mall East, and a truly diabolical website”.
Jom Makan is a Malaysian restaurant just off Trafalgar Square. It has a grey tiled floor, quite high ceiling and has a canteen feel to its décor. The lengthy menu has all the standard Malaysian dishes you might expect and is fairly inexpensive, with dishes mostly priced around £8, and starters around £4.
