    The Standard’s ace investigative reporter – taking the place of David Sexton, who has written the second review to Ms Maschler’s in recent weeks – files a despatch on a restaurant in his patch, Greenwich. It turns out to be part of the “stealth chain” of local establishments built up over recent years by an “American named Frank Dowling”. “His company, Inc Group, now controls seven of the town centre’s 15 pubs and bars.” As he observes (absolutely correctly, in our view): “[n]one of them is exactly bad… [b]ut all are somehow dispiriting”.
