“Everyone needs a local steakhouse like this”, say fans of this “very authentic” Argentinian, just south of Tower Bridge; highlights of the “relatively short” menu include “fabulous” meat (of course) and “tasty” puddings.

It is the smell that makes you pause and stop by the faceless corner site on Tower Bridge Road. The scent of meat sizzling over charcoal on what passes for a warm summer’s evening in this town pulls you in as if deftly lassoed.

A whiff of charred cowflesh is drifting across Tower Bridge – and it’s not coming from the slick Gaucho Tower Bridge restaurant. La Constancia is this year’s big local Argentinian steakhouse opening. The venture, under the sure hand of Sebastian Harguindey – formerly a popular waiter in one of the other London parrillas – has taken over a space left by a burned-out pub, in the heart of fast-gentrifying Bermondsey.
