“Sensationally good grilled plaice” and the “freshest fish and prawns” help make this 55-year-old north London chippy a “favourite place to go to be cheered up” (“my partner and I think it’s well worth catching the two buses needed to get there!”). “Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan is known to frequent it when playing in the Masters Championships at nearby Ally Pally”. Top Menu Tip – “always order the delicious Greek salad, with the family’s own-recipe dressing”.

“Top-quality fish” has kept this Muswell Hill chippy high on the list of North London favourites for more than five decades, with two generations of the Greek-Cypriot Georgiou family maintaining the legacy left by the original ‘Toff’, Andreas Ttofalli.

“A Muswell Hill institution with frequent queues”“Toff’s is a fantastic fish ‘n’ chip restaurant run by a Greek Cypriot family, which has been doing a roaring trade for decades”. It’s known for its “friendly welcome and the fantastic quality of its fish”“there are other fish ‘n’ chip shops in the area, but Toff’s is tops”. Sadly, George Georgiou, the co-owner with his brother Costas, died of Covid in April 2020; his widow Giga and son Christopher have stepped in to continue his legacy. Now in its 54th year, Toff’s is named after a former owner, Andreas Ttofalli.

“Popular, and sometimes crowded institution, in the culinary wilderness of Muswell Hill”, well known as one of north London’s best “good, old-fashioned” chippies. Run by brothers George and Costas Georgiou: “their fish is always fresh, and perfectly cooked, and the chips are good too”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
