Soren Jessen’s “slick, Nordic cafe in the City of London” occupies part of the Bloomberg Arcade and contributes to the development’s renown for offering “good food in the dry desert of the Square Mile”. It majors in Danish smørrebrød (rye bread with toppings): “nice for a change”, but “you can rack up a fair bill eating these delicate one-bite-and-they-are-gone appetisers” (though “there there are decent main courses such as fish, schnitzel and venison fillet”). On the downside, results can end up seeming “not as Scandi and varied as expected”“I prefer IKEA meatballs, even if they are not as prettily presented!”

This “Nordic restaurant with classic and well-executed dishes from the region” is a more casual offering in the Bloomberg Arcade from Danish veteran City restaurateur Soren Jessen, of smart No 1 Lombard Street. There’s a good choice of Danish smørrebrød – slices of rye bread with tasty toppings – and a matching selection of aquavit and Scandi gins. Although the odd reporter feels it’s “rather let down by the austere ambience”, it is “excellent for a quick work lunch”.

“Odd location in the midst of the City for a modern Scandinavian restaurant” – Soren Jessen’s (of No.1 Lombard Street) “spacious” yearling in the new Bloomberg HQ has “quality Scandi decor with an open kitchen”, but its clean-living associations are perhaps slightly at odds with its site, amongst all the money factories. “The smørrebrød (open sandwiches), particularly the pickled herring, are fantastic and the small but thoughtful wine list and menu are well thought out”, but it can “seem quite pricey for what you get”.
