The Survey ResultDiary

For “a fun and lively dining experience” – “like being in Beirut!” – this “entertaining” cellar-Lebanese, near Liverpool Street, can be quite a “find”; the belly-dancing music can be “ear-splitting”, though, and not all reporters are impressed by the food.

  • Metro Marina O’Loughlin (8th November 2007)
    3/5 stars

“Great stuff”, “fun all round” – as seems to be becoming a trend, when Ms O’Loughlin likes a place, she really likes it. This week it’s a new City Lebanese which is the object of her affections.
  • The Independent on Sunday Terry Durack (19th October 2007)
    13/20 points

This Lebanese newcomer in Bishopsgate is an “Aladdin's cave of sumptuous over-the-topness”, and provides an “entertaining setting”, says the critic. The fare is full of “soothing, easy flavours”, and service is “friendly and unfussy”. Some dishes though, can taste “fairly one-dimensional”.
  • The Independent John Walsh (17th October 2007)
Food 2/5 stars; Ambience 3/5 stars; Service 3/5 stars

This Devonshire Square newcomer may offer “damned exceptional wine” and “rhythmically undulating” belly dancers, but the critic finds that its Middle Eastern cuisine is “hopelessly under-flavoured” – all the less easy to forgive when prices reach “stratospheric levels”.
