A seventeenth-century former coaching house attached to a luxury hotel, where “very attentive service and comfortable surrounds make a superb environment for tasty and very well-presented dishes”. Cynics feel the “high price point is no doubt for the privilege of having Michael Caines’s name above the door”, but the general consensus is that it’s “worthy of its high AA rating” (three rosettes) and lunch, by contrast, is “a lovely affordable treat”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
