This “treat of a seafood restaurant” in a centrally located basement is thriving after 25 years on the strength of chef-patron Derek Marshall’s “tasty and generally faultless” cooking – no wonder “there has been little attempt to change the basic formula and experiment with new techniques and flavours”. Top Menu Tip – the famous “fish soup is superb”.

Derek Marshall’s “always excellent”“if slightly difficult to find” – basement seafood spot celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. It’s particularly noted for its “interesting good-value lunch”.

“Very good-quality fish (fresh and locally caught) – often simply but always expertly cooked” has been the hallmark of Derek Marshall’s low-key city-centre basement destination since it opened in 1998. Top Tip: “exceptional fish soup!”.

“Simply cooked” but “superb” Scottish seafood has long been the hallmark of Derek Marshall’s “consistent and wonderful”, if fairly low-key basement veteran in the city-centre: one of Glasgow’s best destinations for a high quality meal, but one with a “friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices” to boot.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
