“Spanish-influenced small plates”“especially delicious fish dishes” – dominate at this well-established venue under the historic York Gate, while “in winter, their Sunday lunch is epic”. “The outlook over Broadstairs beach to the sea is spectacular and sitting at the bar is simply divine”. Next door, the new Flotsam & Jetsam has been split off from the original site, serving “super-creative fish ’n’ chips”.

For “a fab all-round experience”, you’d do well to visit this ten-year-old bar/restaurant under the historic York Gate, which has been split in two following the lockdown closure. There’s a new ‘seafood & frites’ bar, Flotsam & Jetsam, while the main restaurant has switched to a small-plates approach with Hispanic influences – mostly fish and seafood, with a choice of two steaks and an Iberico pork chop.

“Ask for a window table overlooking the harbour, but wherever you sit, you’ll not be disappointed”, say fans of this tastefully decorated and “lively” bar/restaurant. Its ratings are constrained by a couple of reporters who found it pricey or disappointing, but most feedback relates of “careful cooking”, with fish dishes particularly recommended. Top Tip – “a quality breakfast near the sea”.

For 33 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"This was an absolute favourite but price vs value now in question and there is less to choose from as a veggie - still excellent food though."
